Boom Goes the Dynamite

Today we worked from one of our other office locations at Brigade Software Park (aka BSP) in order to meet the other half of our team members. This is the location of our original office when our shared services practice was started in Bangalore back in 2002. Lunch at this location is provided in the office daily, and features traditional Indian vegetarian cuisine. I certainly am not a vegetarian by any means. I would say the closest I've ever been to vegetarian would be getting a vegetable plate at a Meat & Three establishment. I was very selective in what I ate, but overall it was pretty decent food. I had coconut rice with vegetables, chickpeas with curry (along with wheat flour tortillas), and a banana.

One thing that has baffled me during my stay thus far are the random power outages throughout the morning, day, and night. The electricity literally just shuts off for a minute up to about ten minutes, sometimes longer. From what I understand, the outages are caused simply by a shortage where demand exceeds supply. We do have generators or something in the office to at least keep some 'emergency power' going to prevent data loss and overall complete darkness, but not so much at the residences. Nothing like trying to shave in the dark!

Tonight I was hoping to be a little more American and watch some television online. We have satellite tv at the residences, but the only "American channels" that we have are the WB, HBO, and ESPN. However, HBO is actually HBO South Asia and is definitely filtered for the region (no Entourage or the like), and the movies, in general, are somewhat 'old' in U.S. standards. ESPN is out of the UK and pretty much covers cricket and futbol. And the WB must be out of some other country as well considering the programming that has been on thus far. At first I thought I had ABC, but it is actually the Australian Broadcasting Company. Also to my disappointment, I apparently cannot watch tv shows online from any of the major networks (CBS, ABC, or NBC). I get a message that says "streaming is not allowed in your geographic region". Thus, I thought I would give Hulu a shot. Same message. Any tech folks out there know if there is a way around this, maybe a way to 'disguise' your IP address to make it a static US address or something?

I knew I could count on YouTube, and checked out one of my favorites that I have posted below. This is a little painful to watch, as this guy struggles through every line of his 'reading the news', but hilarious nonetheless. Similar to Obama without a teleprompter maybe? He still, somehow, is able to work his catch phrase in ("Boom Goes the Dynamite"), though not really with the proper inflection.

  2. He is the worst sports reporter I've ever seen. It's like a 2nd grader trying to read a 5th grade passage. Terrible!
